RAINBOW MOUNTAIN - AUSANGATE
Located in the Andes mountain range, the majestic Ausangate Mountain is located within Cuzco region in Peru. Its main summit is 6372 meters above sea level with large bright green & blue colored lagoons with a bright green / blue color.

In the Inca mythology of this mountain and nearby lakes- among which Sibinacocha stands out – the male energy that fertilizes the mother earth Pachamama is born; after a long run, the waters are lost in the unknown lands of the amazon to return, to fill the lakes and glaciers every night turned into the river of stars or Willkamayu known in the west as the milky way. The community of Chilca made up of shepherds of llamas and alpacas is known as the guardian of these pristine places, from where you can make mountain walks spending the night in comfortable shelters or tambos among which are Machuracay tambos, in a trekking called road of Apu Ausangate. Every year on the north side of the Ausangate is celebrated from time immemorial the feast of Qoyllur Riti (Quechua snow star) before the feast of Corpus Christi, during which thousands of Quechua pilgrimage to the lord of Quyllur in a sacred temple.

Rainbow Mountain Full Day Excursion

We will pick you up in the lobby of your hotel between 3am and4am and make our way to the trail head at pitumarca (quisiuno). On the way the bus will stop for breakfast and a quick bathroom break. Upon arrival to quisiuno the tour guide will explain about the walk. The climb is a difficult 45 degree hike to the vista point for around 2 hours. Upon arrival at the vista point you will have some time to take photos and relax before making our way back down to the bus.

Normally the trek takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Important Recommendations
Please keep in mind that this is a difficult hike. For those who might have trouble you can rent a horse to ride. Local people will sale water, soda, caps, gloves etc. along the trail so please bring your Peruvian Sole’s.

* IMPORTANT; Rainbow Mountain, in rainy season could be not recommended. It is a lot of chances that the mountains are covered with snow, due that the mountains belong to part of the Andes range, also the hike could get heavier and wet and even sleepery to hike. Please ask for further details.
